Horizontals is a shared platform and core services team under Viva Employee Experience Organization (EXP) and are a catalyst of growth not just for Viva suite but for M365 as a whole. The Viva Horizontals team is looking to hire a Senior Software Engineer for the Employee self-service agent. It's a flagship MSFT story on building agents in the era of AI shift.
Announcement for the product was done by Satya in his keynote and was a corner stone announcement of private preview launch by Rajesh Jha along with Charles Llama from copilot studio team at Ignite in November. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be expected to figure out the ambiguity surrounding the Copilot/LLM Space and work closely with product owners on defining the requirements in a rapidly evolving environment. You will also be expected to work with partner teams and be open to contributing to their source code at times for our platform needs.

More about the Role
Viva Horizontals is a shared platform and core services team under Viva Employee Experience Organization (EXP) and are a catalyst for suite growth. The team creates foundational services in core suite-wide areas like access management, innovates on suite-level platforms like Viva Skills and are responsible for pioneering Viva’s presence on M365 Copilot. Viva Horizontals work on pivotal infrastructure and platform services that have a Viva-wide influence and value.
The Viva Horizontals team is looking to hire a Senior Software Engineer - Viva Skills to work in Viva User Skills Services and APIs through the exciting journey of skills based experiences across Viva. The scope of work would be to build and maintain a scalable, highly available skills service across the Viva ecosystem. Following the operational and engineering excellence best practices. In this role you will be responsible for the implementation of experiences from incubations stage to maturity with customer trust and user delight.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR
- OR
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- Experience in design, coding, rapid prototyping, debugging, and problem-solving.
- Experience with good understanding of distributed systems/Microservices architectures.
- Ability to work on cross-platform code.
- Exposure communicating, collaborating and navigating ambiguity in a cross-group environment.
- Understanding driving quality experience for customers.
- Understanding of LLM and copilot is an added advantage.
- Hands on experience in architectural design and large-scale systems.
- Experience with using data analysis techniques on real datasets.
- DevOps Experience supporting production systems.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

- Define, design, and deliver backend services from incubations stage to maturity with customer trust and user delight.
- Contribute to the architecture & design of the products. Develop and release new modules and horizontal features for the Viva Product Suite.
- Own the components and driving them end to end. Work with our product and design team to implement intuitive and engaging user experiences.
- Define and build systems and strategies to ensure quality, performance, simplicity, durability, scalability, and maintainability.
